Life:What You Might Have Missed

Life:What You Might Have Missed

Most people spend their lives in the busyness of this world. Some chase after pleasures, others labor daily just to make a living, and many pursue dreams that eventually fade away. The problem is not simply work or enjoyment, but that in the midst of these things we may overlook what is far more important — eternity.

The Bible reminds us:

  • “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?” (Mark 8:36).
  • “The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:17).

This world offers only a temporary stay. We may live seventy, eighty, or perhaps a hundred years (Psalm 90:10), but eventually we return to the dust from which we came:

  • “For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:19).
  • “All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.” (Ecclesiastes 3:20).

Yet this is not the end of the story. What many have missed is the Good News of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

The Promise of Eternal Life

Jesus said:

  • “In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2, KJV).
  • “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:3).

This eternal life is not merely endless existence, but everlasting joy in the presence of God — free from sorrow, death, and pain:

  • “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4).

The Warning of Eternal Separation

To miss this promise is to face eternal separation from God. Scripture is clear:

  • “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27).
  • “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:15).
  • “They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.” (2 Thessalonians 1:9).

Eternal life and eternal judgment stand in contrast. One leads to joy and fellowship with God; the other to destruction and separation.

Passing from Death to Life

The good news is that God, in His grace, offers eternal life to all who believe in Jesus Christ.

  • “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (John 5:24).
  • “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).

Those who come to Christ are no longer merely creatures returning to dust — they become children of God, reconciled through His Son:

  • “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12).
  • “So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” (Galatians 4:7).

The Call to Awaken

Do not let the cares, pleasures, and pursuits of this temporary life blind you to eternity.

  • “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33).
  • “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 3:15).

The greatest mistake is to live only for now, and miss the eternal life that God freely offers in Christ.

Final Appeal

What you might have missed in all your busyness is this: life is short, eternity is long, and salvation is urgent. Jesus invites you to come to Him:

  • “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28).

In Christ, we are no longer under sin and death, but under grace — living as sons and daughters of the living God, with the assurance of life everlasting.

Choose Christ today, and live not for what perishes, but for what endures forever.
