The Danger of Weaponizing Covenant Identity

A Biblical Response to Modern War, Unbelief, and Misused Theology on Covenant Identity

By Christ.ph

The ongoing wars in the Middle East have stirred strong emotions across the world. Many Christians instinctively support modern Israel because they believe the Jewish people remain God’s chosen nation (covenant identity) regardless of belief in Jesus Christ.

At the same time, horrifying images of bombed neighborhoods, starving children, displaced civilians, and mass casualties have caused many to ask difficult questions:

  • Does being “chosen” justify violence?
  • Does God approve of every action committed by a nation claiming biblical identity?
  • Are Christians commanded to support unbelief because of ethnicity?
  • What does Scripture actually teach?

These are not merely political questions. They are spiritual and theological questions that must be answered carefully and biblically.

God Truly Chose Israel — But Why?

The Bible plainly teaches that God chose Israel under the Old Covenant.

Through Abraham, God established a covenant people through whom would come:

  • the Scriptures,
  • the prophets,
  • the priesthood,
  • and ultimately the Messiah.

Scripture

“The LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself…”
— Deuteronomy 7:6 (KJV)

But Israel’s election was never meant to be interpreted as unconditional approval for every future action or generation.

The Old Testament itself repeatedly shows God judging Israel whenever they rebelled, oppressed others, or turned away from Him.

God punished:

  • idolatry,
  • injustice,
  • bloodshed,
  • pride,
  • and unbelief —
    even among His covenant people.

Being chosen did not mean being above accountability.

The Central Issue of the New Testament: Christ

The New Testament shifts the focus from ethnic covenant identity to faith in the Messiah.

Jesus Christ came as the fulfillment of the Law and the prophets.

Scripture

“He came unto his own, and his own received him not.”
— John 1:11 (KJV)

Many Jewish people believed in Jesus, including the apostles and the early Church. Yet many also rejected Him.

The apostles never taught that Jewish ethnicity itself guarantees salvation or covenant standing before God.

Instead they preached repentance and faith in Christ for both Jews and Gentiles.

Scripture

“Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father.”
— 1 John 2:23 (KJV)

This statement leaves no room for dual-covenant theology or salvation apart from Christ.

The Dangerous Modern Confusion

Today, many believers have unknowingly adopted an idea that Scripture itself does not teach:
that modern ethnic or political Israel automatically possesses God’s approval regardless of belief or conduct.

This confusion often causes Christians to excuse or ignore suffering, oppression, or injustice because they fear “touching God’s chosen people.”

But biblical truth must remain above political narratives.

The Bible never teaches unconditional approval of any nation’s actions.

Not ancient Israel.
Not modern Israel.
Not Gentile nations.
Not anyone.

God judges all peoples by righteousness, truth, and justice.

The Current War and Human Suffering

The modern conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in enormous suffering on both sides.

The October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks killed Israeli civilians and triggered widespread war in Gaza. The European Union and many nations condemned the attacks as terrorism. (EU Civil Protection Aid)

But the resulting military campaign has also produced catastrophic humanitarian consequences in Gaza.

According to recent humanitarian reports:

  • tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed,
  • large numbers of women and children have died,
  • most of Gaza’s population has been displaced,
  • infrastructure has been devastated,
  • and humanitarian organizations warn of worsening famine and collapse of medical services. (UNRWA)

Reuters reported that U.N. Women estimated an average of at least 47 women and girls killed daily during the conflict between October 2023 and December 2025. (Reuters)

OCHA and UN agencies continue documenting civilian casualties, displacement, destruction of homes, attacks affecting residential areas, and severe humanitarian deterioration. (OCHA – Occupied Palestinian Territory)

Even amid ceasefire periods, civilians continue to die from renewed strikes and ongoing violence. (Reuters)

To acknowledge this suffering is not antisemitism.
It is humanity.

And more importantly, it is consistent with biblical justice.

Christians Must Reject Ethnic Idolatry

One of the greatest dangers today is turning ethnic identity into a form of spiritual immunity.

Some Christians speak as though:

  • Jewish unbelief no longer matters,
  • Christ can be bypassed,
  • or any criticism of Israeli actions equals opposition to God.

This is not apostolic Christianity.

The Apostle Paul himself warned that unbelieving branches were broken off.

Scripture

“Because of unbelief they were broken off…”
— Romans 11:20 (KJV)

Unbelief – Broken off from covenant blessing

Paul’s warning was spiritual, not racial.

The issue was never ethnicity alone.
The issue was faith.

God’s People Are Defined by Christ

The New Testament repeatedly teaches that the people of God are now identified through union with Christ.

Scripture

“There is neither Jew nor Greek… for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
— Galatians 3:28 (KJV)

Scripture

“And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
— Galatians 3:29 (KJV)

Faith in Christ = Children of Abraham

This means:

  • Jewish believers in Christ are part of God’s redeemed people.
  • Gentile believers in Christ are also part of God’s redeemed people.
  • Unbelief excludes regardless of ethnicity.

The dividing line is no longer genealogy.

The dividing line is Christ.

Loving Jewish People Does Not Mean Supporting Unbelief

Christians are commanded to:

  • love Jewish people,
  • pray for peace,
  • oppose hatred and antisemitism,
  • and recognize the historic role Israel played in God’s redemptive plan.

But Christians are never commanded to affirm unbelief.

True biblical love tells the truth:
salvation is found only in Christ.

Scripture

“Neither is there salvation in any other…”
— Acts 4:12 (KJV)

This applies equally to:

  • Israelis,
  • Palestinians,
  • Arabs,
  • Jews,
  • Western nations,
  • and every tribe on earth.

No ethnicity is saved apart from the gospel.

The Kingdom of God Is Not an Ethnic Kingdom

Jesus did not come to establish ethnic supremacy.

He came to gather one people from all nations.

Scripture

“And there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”
— John 10:16 (KJV)

Jew or Gentile + Faith in Christ =People of God

The Kingdom of God is not built upon race, nationalism, or political identity.

It is built upon repentance, faith, righteousness, mercy, and truth.

A Final Warning to the Church

The modern Church must be careful not to confuse:

  • biblical Israel with every action of the modern Israeli state,
  • covenant history with unconditional political endorsement,
  • or compassion for Jewish people with silence toward injustice.

Likewise, Christians must reject hatred, revenge, terrorism, and antisemitism from every side.

The gospel does not permit selective outrage.

God cares about:

  • Israeli lives,
  • Palestinian lives,
  • Jewish lives,
  • Arab lives,
  • and every soul created in His image.

The Church must never become a mouthpiece for ethnic favoritism while ignoring human suffering.

The cross of Christ stands above tribalism.

Final Biblical Conclusion

Under the Old Covenant, Israel was God’s chosen covenant nation.

Under the New Covenant, God’s chosen people are those who belong to Christ by faith.

Therefore:

  • Jews are not rejected because of ethnicity,
  • Gentiles are not excluded because of ethnicity,
  • but neither are Jews spiritually exempt because of ethnicity.

Scripture

“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”
— Galatians 3:26 (KJV)

The answer to the world’s hatred, violence, and division is not ethnic supremacy.

The answer is the gospel of Jesus Christ — the Shepherd who calls people from every nation into one flock under God.
